Two years of waiting after the utterly brilliant 2019 Great Southern Brevet, easily the toughest bikepacking event I’d done, for the next iteration was finally over. Alas, I dislocated my shoulder again a month before, so the plan this time was to take it easy and see how the shoulder and legs went – no night riding, ease back into longer days, spend more time looking at the views, eating and riding with others. It went brilliantly – another fabulous week down south; kinder weather and an easier course (no big traverses of exposed mountain ranges) certainly helped. Still there were challenges and things learnt; but they were more than surpassed by excellent riding and riding buddies. Another GSB week which will stay with me for a long time.
